How to Download Music on iPhone for Offline Listening

Download songs from Apple Music
- Open the Music app.
- Find the song, album or playlist you want.
- Add it to your library if it is not already there.
- Tap the Download control.
- To confirm it is available offline, disconnect from Wi-Fi/cellular temporarily and play it from your library.
Downloaded Apple Music subscription tracks are for offline playback inside Apple Music. They are not ordinary DRM-free audio files that you can export to another app.
Turn on Sync Library
If you subscribe to Apple Music, Sync Library makes your music library available on devices signed in with the same Apple Account. On current iOS, Apple documents the setting under Settings > Apps > Music > Sync Library. Apple also notes that Apple Music is not a backup service, so keep a separate backup of irreplaceable local music files.

- Add or import the music you own into the Apple Music library.
- Connect the iPhone to the PC and trust the computer if prompted.

What about music bought from the iTunes Store?
Purchased music is different from Apple Music subscription downloads. Apple says purchased media can be downloaded to compatible authorized devices. If you previously bought music with your Apple Account, use Apple’s purchased-content controls rather than searching for an unofficial downloader.
Choose download quality carefully
Higher-quality and lossless downloads use more storage, but there is no single trustworthy “MB per song” number because file size changes with song length, codec and quality. Check your Music settings and available iPhone storage before downloading a large library.
You can review storage at Settings > General > iPhone Storage. If Music is using too much space, remove downloads you no longer need instead of deleting irreplaceable source files from your computer.

Common problems
The Download button is missing
Make sure you are signed in to the correct Apple Account, your Apple Music subscription is active if required, and the item has been added to your library.
My Windows PC does not show the iPhone
Use the current Apple Devices app, unlock the iPhone, reconnect the cable and respond to the Trust prompt. Try another known-good data cable or USB port if the device still does not appear.
Will Remove Download delete the song everywhere?
Removing a local download is different from deleting an item from your library. Read the confirmation wording carefully so you remove only the local copy when that is your intent.
