Casely vs Pela: protection-first fashion vs compostable material
These brands solve different problems. Casely sells fashion cases in many prints and protection tiers. Pela builds its identity around Flaxstic®, a material made from compostable bioplastic elastomer and flax straw, with an end-of-life path that is fundamentally different from a conventional polycarbonate case.

Pela's material: compostable does not mean “100% plant-based”
The old article called Pela a 100% plant-based case that leaves “zero plastic waste.” That is too simplistic. Pela's current material page says Flaxstic is made from a compostable bioplastic elastomer and flax straw. Pela also publishes composting-standard information for its base material.
This distinction matters for credible sustainability writing: a compostable bioplastic is not the same thing as saying every component is literally 100% plant-derived. The useful verified claim is that Pela designed the case material for compostability and provides disposal guidance.
MagSafe: Pela has changed
The old comparison said Pela avoided embedded magnets and could not function as a true MagSafe case. Current iPhone 17 product pages now offer a “with MagSafe” option for an additional $10.
That removes one of the old article's biggest disadvantages for Pela. Buyers should still check Pela's current disposal instructions for the exact magnetic configuration because adding hardware can affect how components should be handled at end of life.
Protection: Casely gives the clearer number
Casely publishes an 8-foot manufacturer drop claim for Bold and describes shock-absorbing air pockets on many current cases. Pela says its cases are tested beyond an average phone drop from a pocket and are designed to protect against daily drops and scratches, but the current official pages reviewed here do not provide the old universal six-foot figure.

Design and feel
Casely explicitly advertises 150+ iPhone 17 designs, collaborations and seasonal drops. Pela focuses more heavily on material feel, natural/soft-touch aesthetics and sustainability messaging. Which looks better is subjective and should not be disguised as an objective review score.
How to dispose of a Pela case
Pela says its case material can go into a home composting environment and that consumers can also check whether a local composting facility accepts bioplastics or return cases through Pela's own program. Conditions and timelines vary, so this update removes the old promise that every case will become soil within a fixed six-to-twelve-month period.
Which should you buy?
