OtterBox Figura Series for iPhone 18 Pro Review: Is the $39.99 Soft-Touch Case Worth It?

Bottom line: OtterBox Figura Series is a sensible $39.99 choice for iPhone 18 Pro buyers who want the brand's protection approach in its slimmest, softer-feeling form. It is more about comfort, color and everyday scratch/drop coverage than maximum ruggedness.

Research-based review: CASEBX has not physically tested Figura Series. Specifications and protection language are attributed to OtterBox and were verified from the current US product page on September 19, 2026.

Why Figura is different

OtterBox calls Figura its slimmest case and lists the iPhone 18 Pro/17 Pro model at $39.99. The current US page shows a polycarbonate layer, thermoplastic elastomer and magnets. Its one-piece design is deliberately simpler than multi-layer Defender or Commuter models.

The exterior has a soft, velvety texture and comes in a more lifestyle-oriented palette. This is the OtterBox option for buyers who dislike the industrial look of rugged cases but still want raised edges, scratch resistance and a recognized protection brand.

Protection level: read the claim carefully

OtterBox says Figura is tested to military drop standard 810G-516.6. The page does not position it with the same 3X, 5X or 7X multiplier language used on some heavier OtterBox families. That makes the hierarchy useful: Figura is an everyday slim case, not a substitute for the company's maximum-protection lines.

Raised edges around the camera and display help reduce direct contact on flat surfaces. OtterBox also says the case covers the camera plateau for extra defense. None of those features can guarantee against screen or lens damage in an unlucky impact.

MagSafe and Camera Control

Built-in magnets support MagSafe accessories. Figura uses a discreet opening for Camera Control rather than the integrated button found on some more expensive OtterBox cases. That is not automatically worse, but buyers who care about the feel of Camera Control should notice the difference.

Soft touch versus long-term practicality

A soft-touch surface can improve comfort and perceived grip, but it also creates a different ownership experience from a hard clear shell. Oils, lint and cosmetic wear may show differently depending on color and use. We did not conduct a long-term abrasion test, so it would be misleading to promise how the finish will age.

Built-in anchor points for straps and charms add a useful lifestyle feature without forcing a permanent loop onto the case.

Pros and cons

Pros: relatively accessible $39.99 price; slim one-piece construction; MagSafe magnets; raised camera and screen edges; soft-touch finish; strap/charms anchor points.

Cons: less rugged than heavier OtterBox families; Camera Control uses an opening rather than an integrated button; soft finish may not appeal to buyers who prefer wipe-clean hard shells; military-standard language remains a manufacturer claim.

Who should buy it?

Figura makes the most sense for buyers who want an OtterBox but have rejected Defender and Commuter because of bulk. It is also a strong fit if color and tactile feel matter as much as raw protection specifications.

Skip it if you need port covers, a finger grip, a holster, a stand or the highest drop-test multiplier in the OtterBox catalog. Those needs point to different case families.

Verdict

Figura is appealing precisely because it does not try to be everything. At $39.99, it offers a slim soft-touch shell, MagSafe and sensible everyday protection features. Its value depends on accepting that minimalist construction means fewer rugged extras.
