Pela: Flaxstic is compostable, but “100% plant-based” is too simplistic

The old article described Pela as leaving “zero plastic waste” and treated the case as simply 100% plant-based. Pela’s own current material description is more precise: Flaxstic is made from compostable bioplastic elastomer and flax straw materials.

Pela says its base material meets ASTM D6400-04 in the U.S. and EN 13432 in the EU for industrial composting, and the company also says it can be left in a home composting environment. That is the verified sustainability claim this article uses.

MagSafe: the old “Pela has no magnets” conclusion is stale

Pela’s current iPhone 17 collection visibly includes products labeled MagSafe included and other listings with MagSafe compatibility options. Several current iPhone 17 products are listed at $75 before promotions.

This is a major change from the old CASEBX comparison, which told MagSafe users to avoid Pela entirely. Current shoppers should instead check the exact product configuration and Pela’s disposal instructions for any magnetic module or added hardware.

Therefore, this update does not recreate an “8.2 ft vs 6 ft” laboratory scoreboard. A numerical marketing claim and a general daily-drop statement are not equivalent test data.

Style: CASETiFY remains the stronger customization platform

If the case itself is part of your personal style, CASETiFY offers the stronger customization argument through artist collaborations, licensed designs and custom text. Its 2026 iPhone 17 support information also says most cases now include Camera Control Button coverage for seamless access.

Pela offers colors, prints and engraved looks, but its core differentiation is material and disposal rather than the scale of CASETiFY’s collaboration ecosystem.

Sustainability: avoid absolute claims

Pela is clearly the more sustainability-centered product in this comparison, but that does not justify unsupported statements such as “zero environmental impact.” Composting depends on product configuration and disposal conditions, and real-world home composting speed varies with temperature, moisture, microbial activity and other factors.

The previous CASEBX article promised a fixed composting timeline based on an alleged experiment. That unsupported experiment has been removed. Buyers should follow Pela’s current disposal guidance.

Which should you buy?

• Choose CASETiFY Impact if customization, licensed artwork and the current EcoShock + Duo-Lock protection platform matter most.
• Choose Pela if Flaxstic compostability and a different end-of-life path are the main reasons you are buying.
• Do not rule Pela out because of MagSafe. Current iPhone 17 listings clearly include magnetic options.
